| EA's E3 2009 Lineup Is Huge May 27, 2009 at 8:20 pm |
| Electronic Arts has announced its "final" E3 2009 lineup, a list of games it plans to showcase at next week's video game expo. EA's list is expansive, making the more profitable competition's showing look minuscule. Some of the titles, like EA Sports Active and The Sims 3 aren't exactly new, nor are they necessarily worth dedicating precious E3 time to. Others are further off, like the 2010 release Dante's Inferno and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. But it's a heckuva collection of code, some of which we've already played, some of which we haven't. After posting consecutive quarterly financial results that have been deemed disappointments by many analysts, Electronic Arts' future is now more than ever being called into question. In one week, E3 will reveal just about every major game you will be able to play in the next year. For racing game fans, these are the big ones expected at the big show: Blur - Activision is hoping for a Call Of Duty-scale new racing franchise... It's official. | When it launched in 2005, the Xbox 360 was, certain issues aside, a successful product. But it was also drab. Lifeless. Until, in 2008, along came the avatars. First officially unveiled at E3 2008, Microsoft's Avatars were seen by many as an attempt to cash in on Nintendo's success with their "Mii" characters, caricatures that had become wildly popular as the individualized mascots of Nintendo's new Wii system. Since there are custom Mii cake toppers, you'd think there would be cutom Xbox 360 Avatar. There are. Design firm Paul Pape Desgins is creating Avatars (along with sculpted Miis) based on the images users send in. This week's Japanese hardware contest wasn't a proud one, with total hardware unit sales just barely cracking the 100,000 mark. Not good. But it was a winning week for the Nintendo DSi and Wii. Provided to the Gamasutra network, this list shows the ten best-selling PlayStation Network titles for April 2009. Rag-Doll Kung Fu is at #1, and that's before it was given away for free, so it should retain the top spot next month as well. Epic Games, the folks behind Gears of War, know a lot about how games are made now. So there's a good chance Epic has a good handle on the future. The company's Unreal Engine 3 powers a good chunk of this generation's titles.
