| Week in Games: a Date of inFamy May 24, 2009 at 6:00 pm |
| Playstation 3 exclusive inFamous is the AAA highlight for the coming week; it releases on Tuesday. Codemasters' alternate-reality Damnation leads a light week for 360. For DS, I'm all about Imagine: Boutique Owner, baby. Also, for those who don't know how to walk, there's a game on the DS that'll teach you how to do that. This is good, I've been at the brachiation stage for a long time, myself. This week's Japanese hardware contest wasn't a proud one, with total hardware unit sales just barely cracking the 100,000 mark. Not good. But it was a winning week for the Nintendo DSi and Wii. Rock Band addicts have a three-pack from industrial rock pioneers Ministry to look forward to next week, in addition to DLC from The Cranberries and The Zombies. The Ministry bundle will set you back $5. Dead Space Extraction has a lot to live up to and a lot of preconceived notions to overcome, not just as a prequel to GameSpot's Best of 2008 award winner for Best Atmosphere and Best Sound Design, but also as an on-rails shooter. Power on the PlayStation 3, dear reader, as a new demo for Sucker Punch's inFamous will be available for you to download as of today. European PS3 owners already have it—we're getting it soon.

| New York GameStop Terrorized by Swarm of Bees May 24, 2009 at 5:16 pm |
| In what sounds like the setup for what would surely be an awesome Sci-Fi Channel original movie, a Union Square GameStop store in New York City was surrounded by thousands of angry bees, trapping employees for hours. As local news station ABC7 reports (via Joystiq), the store evidently had a large bee hive running up its wall, and something (although it's not clear what) disturbed them. And it disturbed them so much they began swarming the store unrelentingly. Playstation 3 exclusive inFamous is the AAA highlight for the coming week; it releases on Tuesday. | Yanks Can Gate Crash Canada's 1 vs. 100 Beta May 24, 2009 at 4:00 pm |
| Deux-deux-deuxs and Cuban cigars are joined by the 1 vs. 100 closed beta on the list of semi-forbidden indulgences Americans are sneaking from across the great northern border. Virtually of course. Kotaku reader Tai Youkai Sama figured out how to do it rather simply. It's Memorial Day weekend, so Microsoft has gone ahead and revealed next week's Xbox Live Arcade titles so they can completely devote Monday to memorializing. Sure it's been out for two months on the PC... Hideo Kojima can have his countdown clocks. Other publishers can have their surprise trailers. But the best tease of the day may be the tweet from one Stephen Toulouse. The list of excuses for not having played Number None's Braid gets shorter today with the release of the Mac OS X version of the time-shifting puzzle platformer. The newest...

| Bethesda Didn't Actively Seek President Clinton for Fallout 3 May 24, 2009 at 3:54 pm |
| Remember that bizarre story about former president Bill Clinton being approached for the role of the president in Fallout 3? Well as it turns out, that was more about an overzealous casting agent than anything Bethesda actually wanted. Speaking to Variety's The Cut Scene blog (via Kotaku), Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of public relations and marketing, says they never actually asked for Clinton to be approached for the role. The story originated from an interview with Lev Chapelsky, general manager of Blindlight, a talent acquisition agency. A damned newsy week deserves a huge roundup: Capcom chickened out over pigs, and Fallout 3's DLC is at last coming to PS3. If nothing else, it neuters some clichéd flamebait from Fallout 3 comments. If you're looking for a big name to voice the president in Fallout 3, who would better to get than, well, a former U.S. President. Lev Chapelsky of the Hollywood firm Blindsight tried just that. When trying to cast the President of the United States, who's better suited for the role than the pres himself? That was Hollywood-based talent acquisition agency Blindlight's thinking...

| Rumored OXM Mass Effect 2 Info Hits Web May 24, 2009 at 3:23 pm |
| Mass Effect 2 'Debut' teaser Mass Effect 2 will have a big presence at E3 next month, but if a rumored article from the next issue of Official Xbox Magazine is to be believed, we don't have to wait so long to find out some of what BioWare plans to show. Or, maybe they're Mass Effect-ified. But the U.S. Army's concept for a soldier in the year 2030 definitely looks video game-ified - especially with its strength-enhancing exoskeleton and . Odds are, unless you like importing Japan-only platforming games featuring a starfish-looking protagonist that is neither a star nor a starfish, you probably aren't overly familiar with the Legendary Starfy (sometimes called Legendary Stafy) series.

| Army Envisions Future with Master Chief-ified Soldiers May 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm |
| Or, maybe they're Mass Effect-ified. But the U.S. Army's concept for a soldier in the year 2030 definitely looks video game-ified - especially with its strength-enhancing exoskeleton and ... combat drugs? Maybe it's Helghast-ified? The "Future Soldier 2030" being planned at the Army's Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Mass., is the subject of much oohing-and-ahhhing in today's New York Post. The basis of tomorrow's fighter is a "soldier as a system," philosophy that more or less regards soldiers as battlefield assets like tanks or planes. Yesterday, Rose McGowan and Tricia Helfer joined Geoff Keighley for a special live taping of GameTrailers TV. The E3 2009-themed special was packed with news, some of which splashed our way from the audience. BioWare lays out their E3 plans for Mass Effect 2 in this E3 prelude video, giving us an early look at the expansive changes coming to the next chapter in their sci-fi epic. When you finished Mass Effect, did you think it was just you telling the story of the good Captain Shephard? Oh no. It wasn't just you. Commander Shephard was telling his own tale. BioWare heads Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Muzyka kicked off their GDC Canada keynote with a narrative about narratives. In the talk, Zeschuk expounded on the many types of narrative that BioWare has experimented with over their long history.

Interactive Entertainment today revealed some plans for The End Is Nigh Part 2 on the PS3 and 360, saying the game would be released in conjunction with the DVD and Blu-ray launches of Watchmen in July, and not only in downloadable form. | Signs of Snow in Downtown L.A. May 24, 2009 at 12:00 pm |
| Last year this building - around the block from E3 - was plastered with Robert Downey Jr. in blackface for "Tropic Thunder." Now it sports the visage of Bret Michaels Snow from Final Fantasy XIII. Pulling back (at bottom) we see Snow getting his Rock of Love on with Vanille and Lightning. As you can see, the crew is covering up an ad for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. I also believe it was the site of a GTAIV ad (before Tropic Thunder), so this is A-list game advertising real estate. Square Enix has still only provided a rough release date for Final Fantasy XIII: Winter 2009. At the company's financial briefing, it was asked about the Final Fantasy XIII release. With the announcement of its 2009 fiscal financials, Square Enix stock prices jumped to the highest they have been since 2003. Thank you Eidos acquisition. Square Enix... | Bee Swarm Traps GameStoppers Inside NYC Store May 24, 2009 at 10:00 am |
| Employees of a GameStop in Union Square were trapped inside their store by thousands of bees outside, super pissed-off that the hive's code for the early Fight Night demo wasn't working. The store was shut down for about 2 hours while someone figured out what to do about the swarm, which was also hoppin' mad that the store never gave them their goddamn free second drum pedal for Guitar Hero: Metallica, because they "ran out" or something. | Bend Over for Bionic Proctologist May 23, 2009 at 8:00 pm |
| Anyone with a dad over 50 has gotten the proctologist story, which strives to make the most florid description of ass pain imaginable while bragging that he's still a tough bastard and survived it. Helpfully, Capcom's Seth Killian provided a video that dads can use to impress upon their kids how prudent it is to get your butthole checked for polyps every day once you turn 52. And to also say "It sorta feels like that." Playstation 3 exclusive inFamous is the AAA highlight for the coming week; it releases on Tuesday.
