LinkedIn Profile Confirms Treyarch Working on Call of Duty 7 May 13, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Confirming what we all could have seen coming about three Call of Duty's ago (in future years, all time will be measured in Call of Duty's), the LinkedIn profile for Treyarch senior animator David Kim shows Call of Duty 7 listed in his experience -- meaning that, yes, Treyarch is already at work on the game that'll follow Modern Warfare 2 (via Shacknews). This isn't exactly a shock, considering Activision Blizzard's strategy of releasing a new Call of Duty game every year (2009's being Modern Warfare 2), and the fact that the franchise has hot-potatoed between original creators Infinity Ward and Treyarch year to year (with Infinity Ward behind aforementioned Modern Warfare 2). So the thought of Treyarch already at work on the next CoD, probably to be launched in 2010, is not beyond the mind's ability to grasp.

That's an awful lot of castles crashed. To celebrate this milestone, the guys over at The Behemoth are rewarding their loyal fans with a contest. Whoever can guess the precise date and time that the Castle Crashers leaderboards will surpass one million players will be treated with a mysterious and "SPECTACULAR" prize. Entries will only be accepted on The Behemoth's forums, and should be rounded to the nearest five minutes. |
"Crime Lords" Running Real-Life Empires From Their PlayStations May 13, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Crafty criminals are reportedly bypassing traditional means of running their nefarious bad guy operations from the confines of prison, turning to video game consoles to deliver orders to the outside world. So says the UK's Serious Organized Crime Agency, which pegs generation non-specific "PlayStations" as the newest tool used by crime committing types to do their dirty deeds. How? By way of video game chat rooms. I was hoping for corpse teabagging in Morse code, but it doesn't appear to be quite that clever.
'Madden' PC Plans Remain Shrouded In Mystery May 13, 2009 at 6:00 pm
It's the eve of E3 - sort of - and EA still isn't talking about what will become of Madden football on our personal computers. It was way back in April of last year that leveled with gamers and said that the mighty Madden franchise wouldn't be coming to PC. So there was no PC version of Madden NFL 09. And then, this spring, while I was being shown Madden NFL 10, I inquired about the lack of a PC version of that game. An EA Sports rep told me there was "more to come" on the PC Madden front but there would not be a Madden NFL 10 for PC.
Blizzard Forum Manager Says Next-Gen MMO is a New Franchise May 13, 2009 at 5:58 pm
If you've been crossing your fingers for World of Starcraft, you can un-cross them now. In a post on the official Blizzard forums, a community manager has confirmed that the next-gen MMO the developer is currently working on will be set in a brand new franchise. The original author of the forum thread in question wrote that, "People are saying that there is another MMO in the works at Blizzard. Seriously, if there was, they would be advertising it already." In response, Blizzard community manager "Zarhym" wrote, "We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch."
40,004 Quarters to Beat Donkey Kong May 13, 2009 at 5:51 pm
May 13, 2009 - Parsippany, NJ (May 14, 2009) - The makers of Stride, The Ridiculously Long Lasting Gum, want this year's E3 to be remembered as the year Steve Wiebe breaks the world record. So they are making Steve an offer they hope will inspire him to succeed. After hearing that the champion arcadesman will once again be jumping barrels and dodging fireballs in an attempt to beat his arch-rival's Donkey Kong world record, the Stride team decided to issue Steve a challenge: If he can re-claim the record at E3 2009, they'll give Wiebe a year's supply of Stride gum's newest flavor - Uber Bubble and $10,001 in the form of every arcade's preferred denomination, quarters (40,004 total, to be exact). *
The King of Fighters XII ESRB Rating All But Rules Out Mai Shiranui May 13, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Fighting fans hoping to see Fatal Fury femme fatale Mai Shiranui added to the are likely going to be disappointed. The ESRB has weighed in on the console versions of SNK Playmore's newest 2D fighter, giving it a T-rating. That's par for the course for The King of Fighters. But what potentially rules out appearances from jiggly, cleavage-baring contenders like Mai and B. Jenet is the lack of "suggestive themes," the kind of themes that could potentially offend those flustered by the exposure of too much flesh.
Army of Two's Tone 'Didn't Work', Says Producer May 13, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Army of Two certainly didn't bring home any awards for introducing the world to its fist-bumping, tandem-parachuting, mercenary protagonists Salem and Rios. Fortunately, the bromantic duo are chief among the list of criticisms that the developers at EA Montreal plan to address with their followup, Army of Two: The 40th Day.Echoing statements made during our preview back in March, executive producer Reid Schneider told Gamasutra, "What didn't work was really the tone," continuing, "If you think about it on a scale, that's a good problem to have -- tone is more easily fixable than having people say, 'You know what? I don't even like the core fantasy or the core gameplay that you're doing"

Dark Void Devs Wary Of Jetpack Neglect May 13, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Airtight Games still has time to wrestle with an apparently common problem: gamers not using all of their abilities in a game. One of the themes of my day yesterday was the idea that gamers often ignore or under-utilize the abilities that games give them. This is common. Or at least it seemed so yesterday.

The Bigs 2 Is Chock Full Of Mini-Games May 13, 2009 at 4:40 pm
2K Sports upcoming sequel to their over-the-top baseball game The Bigs includes almost more mini-games than you can shake a stick at.Of course the sport of baseball is one of the most stick-shaking intensive pastime in the world, so the mini-games still feature liberal amounts of batting, along with what looks like climbing and a bit of rope sliding. It certainly looks interesting, though I am not sure if it's interesting enough to keep me occupied. As my recent impulse purchase of MLB 09 for the PlayStation 3 proved, it takes a lot to keep me interested in a sports title, no matter how good it is. What I need is a game that combines baseball with first-person shooter and role-playing game elements. A turn-based battle against a dragon on the way to third base would keep me glued to the screen for hours.

The online leaderboards will be tracking top players, so you’ll bothhave some incentive to keep the diner running; but it doesn’t take long forthings to get amazingly chaotic! |
Bungie Betas Render-To-Video Feature For Halo 3 May 13, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Frustrated by the fact that you can't share your in-game Halo 3 movies without a video capture setup? Bungie is beta-testing a service that will set your clips free, for a price. When you record a video in Halo 3, it doesn't take up much hard drive space. This is because the video is encoded in game date instead of actual media. When you playback a video, the game renders it in real-time. This is great for sharing your favorite moments with your Xbox Live buddies, but not so good for those wishing to broadcast these moments to the world. Enter Bungie's render-to-video service. First announced in October of last year, the render-to-video service does just what it says. It takes the game data and creates an actual, downloadable video from it. Bungie has wired together a number of rendering systems, lovingly referred to as the Hydra Contraption, which are dedicated to creating such videos for paying customers of their Bungie Pro storage service.

LinkedIn Profile Refers To Call Of Duty 7 May 13, 2009 at 11:40 am
A surprise to absolutely no one, the LinkedIn profile for a senior animator at Treyarch lists Call of Duty 7 as currently in production. With Activision currently focusing on the next Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game from developer Infinity Ward, we aren't expecting any sort of official announcement on the next Treyarch version of the game any time soon. Still, it's pretty much a no-brainer, especially considering the success Call of Duty: World at War and its downloadable content have seen. A LinkedIn profile for Treyarch Senior Animator David Kim indicates that Call of Duty 7 is indeed in the works. He lists the game twice in his profile, once under his summary and again under experience.

Bethesda Says More Fallout 3 DLC Could Come May 13, 2009 at 11:06 am
| The downloadable content for Fallout 3 recently came to a head with the release of "Broken Steel," which removed the ending and upped the level cap. But Bethesda might not be done releasing new content packs for the game, and as with most corporate decisions, future packs will rely on projected profits. OXM interviewed Bethesda's Pete Hines, who hinted at the prospect for more DLC on the way."Whether [Broken Steel is] the absolute last one remains to be seen," he said. "Because it's been hugely successful. Operation Anchorage vastly exceeded our expectation. It was like 'holy shit, we did how many?' and the Pitt was really successful, after a bit of a false start." He goes on to say that Broken Steel is the most anticipated of the packs among fans, and he expects it to be "hugely, hugely popular."

Miracle Witch Is Like Zelda, Only New And Free May 13, 2009 at 4:30 am
Nigoro are surely the masters of the browser flash game. is no different. Rather than creating another "simple" title, Nigoro have made their own take on old 8-bit adventure titles like Zelda, complete with dungeons, magic and a rousing 8-bit score. Miracle Witch can be a bit touchy to control at times, and is a bit too complex to be a workplace time-killer, but if you're reclining at home after a hard day's work/school/whatever, it's a cheap way to keep yourself busy for the night.
